Hong Kong Airlines To Get More A330s

Hong Kong Airlines will add more Airbus A330s to its fleet to boost its route network and expedite business recovery.

Three total A330-300s will be added following a period during the pandemic when the company was forced to downsize significantly.

During the recent Dragon Boat Festival holiday, our ticket sales were strong, reaching a peak since the pandemic began. The load factor even exceeded pre-pandemic levels by 7%, the result is quite encouraging, as our profitability has significantly improved, and it also demonstrates our flight resumption efforts this year continue to gain traction. We will accelerate the recovery of flights and expand the coverage of our flight destination network.

Hong Kong Airlines Chairman, Mr Hou Wei

The A330s will be equipped with 292 seats. This is spread across 32 in Business Class and 260 in Economy Class, making it a two-class configuration. The A330s have thus been refurbished with Hong Kong Airlines classic seat covers. The airline further adds that its a spacious and comfortable cabin, and the addition of the aircraft will aid their recovery.

Hong Kong Airlines currently has more aircraft that remain in storage than service, with 16 parked and 15 in service. It highlights the toll that has been taken on the business as it was based in a region with some of the longest and toughest restrictions during the pandemic.
