An Airbus A330neo

According to reports, Airbus is about to receive an aircraft order with flyadeal committing to the A330neo program.

flyadeal is a Saudi Arabia-based budget carrier finalising a deal for ten units.

Purchases from this region have become a recurring theme, significantly aided by the upcoming launch of Riyadh Air.

Much focus has been placed on expanding the airlines’ business in this region to make Saudi Arabia a powerhouse rather than just a transit point across the Middle East.

Saudi Arabia’s growth theme is similar to nearby locations such as Doha, Dubai, and even Abu Dhabi; however, the mission will be even more challenging with added competition.

As for the commitment to the A330neo, a deal will likely be secured in the coming weeks, thanks to reporting from Reuters, among others, which has cited industry sources close to the matter.

flyadeal studied the A330neo for some time alongside the Boeing 787; these two aircraft typically paired against each other for aircraft orders in the more mid-sized widebody flying market.

Such an order has been in the works for a long time, stemming from a June 2024 report that the airline sought a widebody aircraft to elevate its fleet. At this point, it was reported that a contract would range from 10 to 20 units.

The Rise Of The Airbus A330neo

Such a deal would be another benefit for the A330neo, which has experienced quite a resurgence across the last few years with substantial commitments coming left, right, and centre.

There was ultimately a period when the aircraft struggled to acquire firm interest; however, Airbus was never too concerned with this.

The A330neo has always been a program that didn’t need thousands of orders to be successful. It was launched as a new engine option rather than a clean sheet in a bid to compete with the 787.

By launching the A330neo, the manufacturer kept costs down on the program and offered a relatively risk-free upgrade for airlines looking to replace their A330ceo, a pivotal aircraft for many fleets over the last few decades.

While the A330neo experienced a slow start, its order tally has risen recently, and this trend is expected to continue. Many companies are interested in the type to aid their future widebody flying efforts.
