Finnair will cancel 110 aircraft from its home base in Helsinki on May 19, 2025, as part of industrial action.
The Finnish carrier confirmed that the cancellations are driven by a plan announced by the Finnish Aviation Union involving industrial action.
With extensive disruptions to the airline traffic on Monday, May 19, 2025, harsh decisions have been made to axe many services expected to depart during this period.
While the industrial action is only expected to unfold over four hours, the network will feel a severe impact many days after the action concludes, but certainly on Monday.
Therefore, Finnair is cancelling 110 flights, which will affect what they believe to be approximately 14,000 customers. While this remains a harsh decision, attempts will be made to find alternative flights visible through Finnair’s website or mobile app.
The cancellations driven by industrial action are not the first, and this is becoming a common occurrence for Finnair amid many walkouts by employees and others.

While one walkout could be a problem for a carrier, if these walkouts persist and cancellations become regular, significant disruptions will occur, and the business will be hurt.
For example, throughout late 2023 and into early 2024, Lufthansa faced significant industrial action, which resulted in it reaching a point where losses began to mount.
Industrial action has become quite common for Finnair, with a near-once-a-month cancellation hitting the network as employee groups walk out of their jobs across its hub of Helsinki.
Finnair wants Monday’s walkout to impact the airport’s baggage handling capabilities significantly. As a result, customers are being encouraged to arrive on time or early and carry all essential items on their carry-on rather than checking them in.
