Etihad Airways is preparing for the introduction of its newest addition to the fleet, the Airbus A321LR, which is scheduled to launch in Q3 2025.
The Abu Dhabi-based carrier, which is focused on fleet expansion, says the first unit will commence operations on August 1, 2025 and will be delivered in the coming weeks to facilitate this.
The landmark announcement, however, involves the state-of-the-art cabin, which focuses on bringing luxury into single-aisle cabins across their short to medium-haul network.
For the most part, at Etihad Airways, a significant focus has been placed on long-haul flying with wide-body aircraft and meeting customer requirements. However, the arrival of the A321LR and the introduction of first-class suites will highlight a shift in focus.
The A321LR Plan
Etihad Airways has confirmed that its first Airbus A321LR will arrive in the coming weeks and will enter scheduled passenger operations at the beginning of August.
This first delivery is part of 10 in total that the company expects to occur across the remainder of the 2025 calendar year.

These planes will be introduced to markets that Etihad Airways has not served before, among others. However, the general focus will be on locations that may not require a high-capacity, wide-body plane.
As a result, thanks to the addition of the A321LR, Etihad Airways can better develop its network and begin reaching new and emerging markets efficiently and profitably.
Inside The Etihad Airways A321LR
At the front of the Airbus A321LR, the first class section will be available. However, the catch is that this will consist of just two seats laid out in a 1-1 configuration, but Etihad still believes that maximum luxury will be felt.
For Etihad Airways, even with only two seats, maintaining consistency in the product across its commercial aircraft portfolio is ultimately of greater importance to the business, regardless of the type of aircraft.

These first-class seats prioritise privacy while also featuring the latest amenities, including wireless charging pads, a large 4K entertainment screen, and other features typically found in a first-class suite.
Behind First Class will be 14 business class pods, as they are being labelled, arranged in a 1-1 configuration. This cements the A321LR’s configuration as being more focused on premium than on being an all-economy single-aisle, as seen with many other international airlines.

Meanwhile, the airline’s economy class will occupy the rear of the plane, featuring 114 seats; however, 36 of these will offer extra legroom.
Etihad Airways also confirms that all seats in Economy will have a 4K in-flight entertainment screen, alongside USB charging ports.
Ultimately, there is great importance for the airline to have a state-of-the-art cabin, from First Class to Economy, to ensure that the plane’s single-aisle quality does not compromise its customer base.
