Delta Firms Order For More Airbus A220s

Delta has announced plans to firm options for a further 12 Airbus A220-300 aircraft to continue expanding its portfolio of A220s for regional flying.

Thanks to the latest commitment, the A220-100 and A220-300 presence will move to 131 units. However, even before these 12 additional units, their commitment to the type was large.

The A220s have routinely been delivered as part of fleet modernisation and simplification plans, and as such the A220-100 and A220-300 already have a strong presence in their network, the -100 being the more popular with almost 50 in active service.

Delta executives say that the A220-300 offers flexibility and fantastic performance, meaning adding 12 units is a logical step, especially as they were options in an existing contract. Therefore, the ease of accessing these options couldn’t be more present.

The major U.S. carrier is largely part of Airbus’ continued efforts at pushing the A220 as a regional and domestic aircraft to carriers in North America, which since acquiring the program has been a success with multiple airlines joining the program.
