Brussels Airlines has announced plans to expand its fleet and update its cabin interior.
The significant investment will pave the way for future growth as the carrier focuses on offering greater opportunities across its long-haul fleet.
Brussels Airlines will add three additional Airbus A330 aircraft to its fleet in the coming years, bringing the widebody fleet to 13 units.
A wet lease provider will make the acquisition possible, and the company will soon have further capacity to deploy across its network.
Once delivered, the carrier says that these Airbus A330s will be deployed to reinforce the Sub-Saharan Africa network. Ultimately, this should make Brussels a true European hub for future flights to and from Africa.
Lufthansa Group, which Brussels Airlines calls home, believes that the Belgian-based carrier is the expert on Africa, and as a result, these A330s will be important.
New Cabins
However, fleet expansion isn’t the only focus. Greater emphasis is also placed on elevating the customer experience inside the aircraft.
As such, Brussels Airlines has committed to investing in introducing a brand-new cabin interior that will elevate the overall passenger experience across long-haul destinations.
The company is still determining what this future cabin product will look like, and as a result, details are scarce.
However, the carrier stated that the new cabins will feature from the front of the aircraft to the back and thus will see updates to business class, premium economy and economy class.
The overall renewal process will see an investment of more than 100 million euros. Brussels Airlines, therefore, calls this a sign of intent about the company’s future.
Furthermore, it’s important to ensure that the money is spent on enhancing the product in a valuable manner that will truly give all customers a premium experience.
More Airbus A220s
In addition to adding A330s to its fleet, the national carrier has also signed a wet lease agreement with airBaltic, commencing in 2025.
This agreement will see Brussels Airlines operate four Airbus A220s seasonally between the end of March and October, thus the busy summer schedule.

These A220s, configured with 148 seats, are deemed absolutely perfect for more regional connectivity and for cities that may be necessary but have lower overall demand.
With these major decisions being implemented, the short-haul and long-haul fleets will thus enjoy significant future growth.
