British Airways has confirmed it’ll re-commence service between London Heathrow and Kualia Lumpur after a four-year hiatus.

Moreover, firm confirmation of the service relaunch, which is expected to arrive on April 2, 2025, follows months of delays spurred on by engine woes with the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000s on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

These new flights are to be operated daily and flown by the state-of-the-art but also under pressure Boeing 787-9, which is now striving for a clean slate where it will not run into engine-related woes that force units to be parked and network adjustments.

Due to engine reliability concerns, British Airways could not resume specific routes or offer frequency increases because it could not confirm whether the 787 aircraft it used to facilitate these route changes would be active.

British Airways says it engaged in good discussions with Malaysia about the service’s reccomencement and now feels confident that a route relaunch can occur.

The UK-based carrier axed the route four years ago as part of a network restructuring in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, which rampaged through the industry and saw international demand plummet to significant lows.

British Airways expects solid load factors but is aware that rebuilding the service that has been absent for longer than the carrier would’ve initially liked may take time.

To confirm, the London-Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur flights were supposed to relaunch in November 2024. However, those plans were shelved in response to reliability concerns with the 787 Dreamliner.

Ultimately, Kuala Lumpur wasn’t the only route that changed or saw suspensions as British Airways looked to solidify its existing 787 network, making some cities with greater demand more critical.

Thus, Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur have much to offer British Airways. The airline is excited about finally being able to return to normal operations.

British Airways aims to capture these markets with its regular services, from business travellers commuting from the city in Asia to London and beyond to those travelling for tourism-related reasons.
