ANA is increasing its commitment to next-generation aircraft following approval from the board of directors at a meeting.

This decision was primarily spurred by the airline’s forecasting for future growth and decades of continued upward trends in passenger demand.

ANA believes that developing its fleet backlog will prove essential to being ready for these significant levels of demand as the years progress and securing valuable delivery slots.

Moreover, ANA confirms that purchasing new planes aligns with its fleet renewal efforts, which have been a strategy for the business since before the global pandemic; however, they were suspended due to restrictions imposed.

In FY2030, ANA estimates that the total number of aircraft in the fleet group-wide will be 320. This will result in the delivery of aircraft that are currently on order, among many others.

With these 320 planes, the 787 Dreamliner will be heavily relied on. ANA expects 120 Dreamliners to be in operation, which will help improve efficiency and sustainability measures substantially.

The New ANA Order

ANA, for its domestic branded routes, will adapt to the ever-evolving industry and trends and has confirmed the purchase of up to 20 E190-E2 jets from Embraer, representing a first for Japan.

Up to 20 aircraft are being ordered spread across 15 firm units, and options for a further five should the airline group wish to activate these later.

These planes will have the newest technology and bring truckloads of efficiency. The first unit is expected to be delivered in FY2028, permitting no delays.

Once entered service, the aircraft should significantly aid domestic route demand across a long-term period while reducing emissions and fuel consumption.

Furthermore, the A321neo will be ordered as a series, with the company committing to 14 additional units, including some of the A321neo aircraft, including the next-generation and newly launched A321XLR for Peach.

In addition to the current fleets, more 737 MAX jets will join the business, with eight confirmed orders and four options for the middle ground 737-8.

Meanwhile, ANA also finalised options for five of the 787-9 jets from Boeing, a finalisation of an order placed at the beginning of 2020 and a finalisation of 10 737 MAX jets from an order announced at the beginning of 2019.

All these aircraft, paired with its existing commitments, will represent big expansion plans moving forward, both domestically and internationally.
