Capital A, which operates as AirAsia, is a dominant airline group across Asia. It is looking to expand its horizons in the coming years with a major international expansion.

AirAsia is known for its low-cost flying, which has been extended for decades with hundreds of aircraft. From the mainline Air Asia to the plethora of affiliate airlines in the Philippines, Thailand, and more, this is a household name in the region.

However, as the airline group looks to adapt to the evolving trends and expand its reach, international expansion beyond its current network could very well be on the cards.

Reporting from Flightglobal, among others, such as Nikkei, states that the carrier is looking to get really ambitious with expansion to even more long-haul markets by the turn of the following decade.

This expansion would see the airline expand into markets across the Americas, whether in Los Angeles or deeper into the country with undecided destinations.

The United States, however, is just one part of the airline’s vision. The airline hopes to also commence flying to popular markets across Europe as it ventures West with its aircraft.

AirAsia Wants To Cover The World

Tony Fernandes, the CEO of Capital A, AirAsia’s parent company, boldly stated that the airline needed to cover the world by 2030.

This means flying just beyond Asia and markets such as Australia with its aircraft and serving more developed Western locations such as the United States and European nations.

AirAsia, however, knows that it cannot just fly to these two locations if it wants to truly cover the world. Other markets, such as emerging African nations, were also highlighted as potential locations of interest moving forward.

These ambitions are still in the early stages, and there is uncertainty about how this will all be possible and which locations will be first if plans continue.

However, Fernandes’s comments are the first part of a new structure the group is identifying to assert itself on the global stage.

AirAsia believes there’s a demand for facilitating this and will look to leverage its already successful business model to other locations in the future.

If this expansion proceeds, many onlookers will begin questioning other airlines that will face increased competition with AirAsia, offering a low-cost and proven alternative.
