The Montreal Canadiens, an NHL team based in Montreal, have announced a multi-year partnership with Air Canada.

As a result of the increased partnership, the Air Canada logo will appear on the top right side of the Canadiens away jerseys.

Previously, Montreal Canadiens jerseys were known for the lack of sponsors featuring. However, last year, the NHL approved their Jersey Advertising Program.

As a result, teams could see key partners advertise their logos on their jerseys. While Air Canada will feature on the away strip, RBC features on the home jersey and has done so since this program was introduced.

Concerns Over Air Canada Appearing

Ultimately, the Canadiens fans have voiced their concerns over the logo on the jersey.

The Canadiens have been a long-standing part of Canada and the sporting identity of the country. Equally important have been the jerseys, which, unlike most teams, have hardly changed through the decades.

However, some fans have expressed frustrations by adding an Air Canada patch to the esteemed jersey.

Additionally, there have been frustrations over the selection of adding Air Canada of all partners to the jersey.

The flag carrier’s reputation within the country has dropped significantly recently with several concerns such as poor service, cancelled flights and more impacting people.

Fans and the general public believe adding the patch, an extension of an already existing partnership, is a kick in the face to the people of Canada.

Comments From Executives

As the Official Airline of the Montreal Canadiens, Air Canada is deeply passionate about our relationship with the organization and its devoted fans throughout Quebec and across North America. As hockey lovers ourselves, it’s a privilege to fly the team across the continent and proudly represent our support and partnership on and off the ice.

Mark Nasr, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Digital at Air Canada, and President of Aeroplan.

It’s a privilege for us to have a longstanding relationship with Canada’s national carrier in Air Canada, and we’re proud to formalize a partnership that will showcase Air Canada’s brand whenever we play on the road. We entrust Air Canada to move our players from city to city, and now that connection will be featured on the ice itself, as our team plays before our fans in NHL markets everywhere.

Looking Ahead For Air Canada And The Montreal Canadiens

Air Canada will continue to be the airline that flies the Montreal Canadiens; however, it will now occupy a spot on the away jersey of the Habs.

Typically, Air Canada will transport the Canadiens for road trips aboard their Jetz division, which caters to more chartered travel.

The new patch is set to debut during tonight’s game against the Anaheim Ducks in California. However, it’ll feature across all Canadiens games where their white jersey is worn, away from Montreal.

The Air Canada Foundation and the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation also announced plans to auction these jerseys.

As part of this, a set of game-worn road jerseys will go up for action. Proceeds will benefit local children’s charities to inspire the next generation of hockey.
