On day 2 of the 2023 Paris Airshow, Boeing announced a deal with Air Algerie that supports future growth plans.
The deal includes eight 737-9 aircraft, part of the 737 MAX family. The airline has also signed an MoU for two of the 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighters or, more simply, BCFs.
Air Algerie’s Memorandum of Understanding for the freighter aircraft from Boeing further supports the American plane makers’ freighter program and re-affirms the support and interest in converting aircraft that have expired their passenger flying to freighters, providing a new lease on life.
The 737-9 is ideally suited for Air Algérie’s regional network, providing it with additional capacity and flexibility to operate seamlessly with its existing 737 fleet. In addition, the highly reliable and capable 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighters will enable Air Algerie to capture growing cargo opportunities, expanding beyond its passenger business.
Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
Previously the commitment for the 737-9s was on the Boeing Orders and Deliveries website and listed as unidentified before a designated customer was confirmed.
Air Algerie has a fleet totally 51 in-service jets with a shot of aircraft types. Notably, it flies 23 of the 737-800s, and as such, the addition of the 737-9 will massively overhaul their narrowbody fleet, which consists of multiple variants in the ageing series.
