Porter Airlines has announced it has exercised purchase rights to finalize a deal with Embraer for 25 E195-E2s.
The Canadian carrier adds 25 to its 50 firm orders under the latest deal, and at list price, the deal is worth USD 2.1 billion.
However, list prices typically reflect the aircraft’s value and rarely what the customer will pay. Normally, heavy discounts are handed down during orders.
This is especially true for an airline like Porter, which has a close, ongoing relationship with Embraer for its fleet.
A Heavy Reliance On The E2 Jet
Since taking delivery of its first Embraer E195-E2, the type has been hugely important to the airline’s current and future success.
The aircraft’s capabilities have enabled Porter to launch into new and emerging markets.
This aircraft has made destinations such as Las Vegas, Miami, San Francisco, and Los Angeles possible, along with further destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico.
Porter Airlines prides itself on utilising a fleet of E2s. This pride is highlighted through a configuration that means customers won’t face a middle seat on their travels. Porter’s E2s also feature the latest amenities.
With 132 seats in an all-economy layout, the aircraft also offers a variety of seat pitches. The 132 seats are down from the 146-seat capacity. However, Porter believes prioritising comfort is one of its most critical priorities.
Porter deploys its E195-E2s from Eastern Canada across the country. Their services focus not only on Toronto Pearson but also on Ottawa, Halifax, and Montreal. These latter locations are all seeing new services over time.
Comments From Executives
At Porter, we entered a new era when we began operating the E195-E2 earlier this year. The jet is exceeding our expectations, especially in terms of fuel use, and delivering an incredible level of customer satisfaction to our passengers with a quiet, comfortable ride. These additional 25 orders enable us to continue extending our reach throughout North America, with more exciting new destinations.
Michael Deluce, president and CEO, Porter Airlines
Porter Airlines is an exciting disrupter delivering an elevated passenger experience that’s shaking up the North American market. Choosing the E2 to deliver an upgraded service is a huge endorsement of the jet’s comfort and capabilities, and a further endorsement of the E2 – the world’s quietest and most fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft.
