Ethiopian Airlines will return to London Gatwick this November with a thrice-weekly service from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, its hub.
Their Airbus A350-900 will operate the service. Ethiopian Airlines has 128 aircraft in service, and 20 of those are the A350-900.
The company also has plans to acquire the A350-1000 in the future, with the additional capacity being a substantial positive for its international operations.
The new route will complement their presence within the United Kingdom, which sees services to London Heathrow and a Manchester flight. Both of these connections from Addis Ababa are with the Airbus A350 too.
The UK is a strong and important market for Ethiopian. Adding London-Gatwick to our UK schedule is truly great news as it will enable us to provide much-needed capacity not only for our passengers but also for our cargo services carried in the belly hold. Ethiopian will now serve London Heathrow, Gatwick, and Manchester Airports.
Mr. Henock Woubishet, Area Manager UK & Ireland
London Gatwick was last listed as a destination on the Ethiopian Airlines network in 2005 and 2006, when they utilised a Boeing 757 for the connection. The significant upgrade to the A350 shows hard far technology has come and how Ethiopian Airlines has advanced as a carrier through the years.
The airline has established partnerships with over 100 UK-based companies in the aviation sector and has a 50-year relationship with the UK. Following the substantial success seen at London Heathrow, adding Gatwick back is the next logical decision viewed by executives.
