United Airlines will expand its presence in Canada by launching three new routes for the northern summer 2027 schedule and increasing frequency.
The decision comes as partner Air Canada reduces its services to the United States, driven by weakened demand and higher operating costs that require network restructuring.
The U.S. carrier’s expansion adds cities across several markets and aims to improve connectivity to support demand that remains across the border, especially during holiday periods.
United Airlines improves flights from Denver
First, United Airlines will expand into Canada from Denver International Airport (DEN), with flights to Ottawa International Airport (YOW) starting on 29 April 2027 with SkyWest Airlines and its Embraer E175; the service will operate daily.
According to the schedule, flagged also by Aeroroutes, United Airlines says flight UA5335 will depart Denver at 1732 and arrive in Ottawa at 2318. The return flight, UA4716, will then leave Ottawa the following morning at 0800 and arrive back in Denver at 1017, all times local.
Denver’s latest route launch to Ottawa will make Ottawa the fourth city served from Ottawa and improve Canada’s capital’s access to Denver and the United States in the future. However, Ottawa won’t represent the only expansion from Denver for United Airlines.
A second route commencing on 29 May 2027 will connect Denver with Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB). This weekly service departs on Saturdays and will be operated by a mainline Boeing 737-800, not a regional partner.

United Airlines will operate UA817, departing Denver at 0935 and arriving in Quebec City at 1530. Meanwhile, the return flight UA2129 departs Quebec City at 1635 and arrives in Denver at 1915. This limited once-a-week weekend flight is selected to meet expected demand and trips during this time of week.
Newark to St. John’s finally returns
As part of its further route expansion, United Airlines will also launch flights between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and St. John’s International Airport (YYT) on 24 June 2027; these flights resume a previously axed service and will operate daily, but only seasonally.
Republic Airways will fly the route in an Embraer E175, departing Newark as UA3420 at 1715 and arriving in St. John’s at 2201. The return UA3664 departs at 1030 and arrives in Newark at 1241, all times local.
Newark is serving St. John’s, a welcome return after more than 10 years, with the last time the U.S. carrier offered nonstop flights between the two markets in February 2016. St. John Airport’s chief executive flagged the importance of restoring a nonstop connection along the eastern U.S. seaboard after such a long suspension.
Other changes for United Airlines
As United Airlines expands into Canada with new routes, it also plans to increase capacity into specific cities, with Denver-to-Winnipeg flights retaining daily service but switching to a larger aircraft for the Northern summer 2027 season.
Furthermore, the airline’s announcement comes after its partner, Air Canada, will cut flights to the United States, as concerns over demand and higher fuel prices have forced it to reduce frequency or strip routes from the network altogether.
While the Air Canada retreat limits seats where possible, partner United Airlines is looking to increase seat capacity between certain locations to cover the Canadian flag-carrier’s disappearance or reduced frequency amid more complicated operating conditions.
