United Airlines is scheduling rare flights between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) in early 2027.
The two limited-time flights are slated to be operated by the high-capacity Boeing 777-300ER, with the airline aligning them with the Mobile World Congress Barcelona. The route lets the airline offer a special non-stop option during one of the industry’s largest annual gatherings.
Schedule data shows United Airlines will operate the outbound services from San Francisco on 27 February and 3 March 2027. Returning from Barcelona, these flights are expected to depart the following day.
Aeroroutes published the schedule, confirming United flight UA672 would leave San Francisco at 1900 and arrive in Barcelona at 1520 the following day. Meanwhile, the return leg of UA673 would depart Barcelona at 1730 and arrive back in San Francisco the same day at 2050; all times are local.
The timing also aligns with the airline’s commitment to serving the event, with the first departure arriving in Barcelona on 28 February 2027, one day before the show commences. Meanwhile, the last flight will arrive on the final day of the event, 4 March 2027, to help bring delegates back and more.
Mobile World Congress 2027: a focus for United Airlines
Airlines often offer limited-time services to cities hosting major annual trade events. United Airlines’ limited flights to Barcelona offer an opportunity to capture premium traffic and key exhibitors who will benefit from the non-stop service.
Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2027 will take place from 1 to 4 March 2027 at Fira Gran Via, organised by the GSMA. This conference and exhibition has long been renowned as a global meeting point that brings together the mobile, telecommunications, and broader connectivity industry for several days of discussions, announcements, and networking.
Since its inception, the event has evolved beyond smartphones and now encompasses network development, 5G and future connectivity discussions, cloud growth, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and all angles of global connectivity.
With international travel concentrated in Barcelona for a brief period, United Airlines has an opportunity to respond, given the Bay Area of San Francisco’s importance in the global connectivity sector thanks to its technology companies, venture capital firms, and beyond.
United Airlines flexes with the new limited flight
A limited-duration nonstop San Francisco-to-Barcelona service gives the U.S. carrier another chance to show how global conferences can shape its network, and the scale and flexibility of the operation enable decisions like this without affecting other service.

San Francisco to Barcelona is not a typical scheduled passenger flight, but the airline’s short-duration service creates a chance to capture vital premium and corporate demand that can translate into loyal, future frequent flyers across the network.
The distinct route segment between the West Coast of the United States and this global trade event means that the two countries and cities are better connected, with strong widebody capacity to bring corporate travellers in and out of the event taking place in March 2027.
