Air Astana has duly passed a resolution at its Extraordinary General Meeting on 9 February 2026 to add up to 50 Airbus aircraft to its future fleet.
As part of the meeting, the airline announced it had completed finalisation of a major transaction with Airbus for five firm A320neo jets and 20 firm A321neo aircraft.
These models are expected to be delivered over the three years 2031-2034, representing 50% or more of the total balance sheet value of Air Astana’s assets.
Additionally, the airline has secured purchase rights for a further 25 A320neo-family aircraft, which can be activated at a later date; specific variants are not specified, but these models are likely crucial to scaling the business over the next decade and beyond.

Air Astana’s large order for a new fleet of Airbus A320neo family aircraft reflects a commitment to maintaining its reputation for operational efficiency and service excellence in the long term. The Airbus A320neo family has proven to be an outstanding success in service with Air Astana over many years and I’m confident that the new fleet will continue to boost sustainable growth and profitability in the long term.

A321LR To Be Crucial For Air Astana
With the Airbus A321LR expected to play an integral role in the fleet, the airline’s CEO said a large share of future single-aisle orders will be for this long-range variant.
Air Astana views the jet as a highly popular option not only for adding critical capacity across key markets but also for expanding its route network, all with single-aisle jets.
The carrier says that the A321LR has set a new standard as an industry leader in range and capacity, whether through the base model or up to the A321XLR, the single-aisle offshoot to the A320neo has become Airbus’ best-selling model and for good reason.

The capabilities are leveraged to meet growing demand across single-aisle services and, in Air Astana’s case, to expand its European and Asian services without incurring the cost of additional widebody jets, instead sticking with a versatile single-aisle.
Airbus Orders Join Boeing 787 Deal
Air Astana’s confirmation that it has passed on up to 50 aircraft from Airbus follows another Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders conducted at the beginning of the year.
During this meeting, the airline saw the resolution passed, allowing for the crucial transaction with Boeing to be completed for future aircraft.

The airline plans to add five firm Boeing 787 jets, with deliveries between 2032 and 2035, plus options for five additional units and purchase rights for five more.
Whether it’s the Airbus single-aisle jets or the Boeing widebodies, the options secured under these contracts mean that, depending on how demand trends in the coming years, these models could remain highly useful into the next decade without requiring a new agreement.
