British Airways has announced that after two plus years away from China, it will launch a service from its hub, London Heathrow, to Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

The service is expected to begin on 23rd April. Meanwhile, British Airways will also reinstate their Beijing service from London Heathrow from 3rd June. Their Beijing flight will be four times weekly.

China was hit hard during the COVID-19 pandemic, with restrictions being widely felt. However, as the location re-opens, people in China and out are desperate to travel. Whether to see the world or reconnect with loved ones, they’ve been away for three years.

British Airways commitment to Shanghai and Beijing will be necessary for the long-term recovery of the industry in that region.

While British Airways has announced that it’ll fly daily from the UK to China, Virgin Atlantic will also join the scene with the resumption of services.

Virgin Atlantic will restart a daily Heathrow to Shanghai service from 1st May. It’s been a long absence in China for the airline, which hasn’t flown there since 23rd December 2020. However, for Virgin Atlantic, Shanghai is a monumental city to return to as it’ll be the final route to return to the pre-pandemic flying programme in total capacity.

British Airways are already flying into Hong Kong, Virgin Atlantic, however, has removed itself from the location due to the closure of Russian airspace.
