The Emirates Airbus A350-900

Emirates is increasing the presence of its next-generation Airbus A350 across the network.

The Dubai-based carrier announced last week its intent to deploy the state-of-the-art widebody on service through to Hangzhou, China, daily.

Emirates will begin the daily service with the aircraft from 26 October 2025, and this comes just three months after the inaugural service, but shows the commitment to China and offering more opportunities to access the Chinese mainland.

The A350 will operate EK310 with departure from Dubai International Airport at 0415 and an arrival into Hangzhou at 1600; the return flight, EK311, departs the next morning at 0010 with a 0610 arrival back into Dubai, all times local.

Emirates states that over the last year, it has placed a great emphasis on developing services to the Chinese mainland, and launching not just brand-new destinations but also elevating existing ones has been key.

A way for Emirates to elevate its flying has been through the deployment of the latest onboard cabin product to specific locations, either achieved through the Airbus A350 or through the gradual return of retrofitted aircraft from the 777 and A380 programs.

Inside The Emirates A350

The Airbus A350 for Emirates represents an opportunity to diversify its fleet mix, with a reduced reliance on the 777 and A380, two high-capacity jets.

What the Airbus widebody offers is greater flexibility to serve emerging markets and ones that may not require such a large plane, something Emirates may have once been able to do, but not as of late, with just two aircraft families present.

These Airbus A350s also represent the first new aircraft model to join the fleet since 2008, now almost two decades ago, which shows just how long the airline has looked to strictly rely on a composition of the 777 and A380 fleet types.

The Airbus A350 also introduces Premium Economy to Hangzhou. The Dubai-based carrier has been on a rapid expansion, attempting to introduce the latest premium offering to cities around the world.

Emirates says that Premium Economy brings a similar experience to Business Class at a fraction of the cost, while also offering a modest upgrade on standard economy with features such as a reclining seat, leg and foot rests alongside seat charging, a pillow and more.

The A350S are configured to seat 312 seats with 32 in business class across a 1-2-1 layout, with 21 of the premium economy seats in a 2-3-2 configuration followed by 259 economy seats at the back of the cabin in a 3-3-3 layout.

At this stage, the configuration for these A350S is for the initial batch. The airline has hinted that this may change at some point, depending on how it intends to utilise the widebody in the coming years and what seat mix will best drive profitability and respond to customers’ requirements in specific markets to be served by the jet.
