American Airlines is expanding its international network, with a six-for-26 plan as preparations begin to turn the page over into a new year.
The U.S. carrier says that across Summer 2026 it’ll launch six new destinations with a focus on Europe and South American experiences.
Firstly, there are summer seasonal services which are set to launch from May 21, 2026, beginning with nonstop Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) through to Athens (ATH) flights on the 787-8.
This daily service to one of Europe’s more popular destinations will help enable travellers access to the cuisine and history, DFW acting as the fifth nonstop destination for Athens, giving greater connectivity options.
Additionally, Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) will see nonstop service down south to Buenos Aires (EZE), an extended service to operate between May 21, 2025, through to August 3, 2026, using the 787-8 Dreamliner from Boeing.
American Airlines also says it’ll commence summer seasonal flights from Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) to Zurich (ZRH) from May 21, 2026, through to August 4, 2026, with the 777-200 to serve the two cities.
Zurich has been carefully selected as it offers expanded service for soccer fans and complements markets such as Argentina, which will be congregating in North America for the 2026 World Cup.
Next, American Airlines is enhancing operations between Miami (MIA) and Milan (MXP), with year-round service to be offered from March 29, 2026, the company committing to using a 787-9 Dreamliner.
Philadelphia (PHL) will see a summer seasonal service also commence on May 21, 2026, with the 787-9 through to Budapest (BUD).
Lastly, American Airlines says a summer seasonal service will also be offered between Philadelphia (PHL) and Prague (PRG), likewise commencing on May 21, 2026, with the Boeing 787-8 to be released.

These changes to the American Airlines network come as the airline says its customers are indicating there’s strong appeal to fly towards European destinations every summer.
As a result of listening to its customer base, the new routes are going to make the Atlantic even easier to cross and the network will only grow further in the coming years with more availability thanks to the delivery of new aircraft and continued network optimisation.
Other American Airlines Changes
American Airlines is also committing to fly West, with the planned expansion of service to Asia and more specifically Japan set to occur.
Compared to the Summer 2025 schedule, the carrier is offering increased premium capacity of more than 45% through to Tokyo Haneda from Dallas Fort Worth and Los Angeles.
This will be made possible with a daily service operated by the Boeing 777-300 commencing on May 29, 2026, from Dallas-Fort Worth.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles will see a twice-daily service commence on the same day using the 777-300, both this and the newly confirmed Dallas Fort Worth flight flying into Tokyo Haneda.
