Etihad Airways is continuing aggressive expansion and growth plans by confirming a new destination in the United States.
From 4 May 2026, thus still some 12 months away, Etihad Airways will commence four weekly flights to Charlotte in North Carolina.
The route launch is a massive commitment to the United States and further strengthens the UAE’s ties with the country and connectivity for passengers.
By commencing service to Charlotte, this will become the sixth destination in the United States, following in the footsteps of Atlanta, which will become the fifth when services launch there on July 2, 2025.
The airline’s network in the United States includes New York, Chicago, Washington, and Boston; however, markets such as Los Angeles are yet to return following a major restructuring of the airline’s operations.

After restructuring, Etihad Airways is fully committed to expanding once more. This includes focusing on the route network and finding ways to optimise it while meeting increasing demand.
Etihad calls the route launch to Charlotte a strategic addition to its ever-evolving network across the United States and specifically ensures connectivity options in one of the country’s most dynamic and fast-growing regions.
Charlotte is known for its technology, finance, and other elements such as culture and motorsport. Etihad Airways plans to leverage that alongside Charlotte Douglas, one of the busiest airports in the world for aircraft movements.
For guests travelling from Charlotte to Abu Dhabi aboard a U.S. service, there’ll now be greater access to the Indian Subcontinent, Asia, and even destinations closer to home, such as the Middle East.
There will be considerable clearance benefits for customers travelling to the United States from Abu Dhabi and beyond, making travel more seamless than ever before. Additionally, further network connectivity opportunities can be activated.
The airline’s announcement of service towards Charlotte also comes a matter of days after it was confirmed that considerable expansion towards Italy would also be made, with a more than 80% jump in capacity to meet growing demand.
