WestJet is expanding its operation with a new service between Calgary and Mexico City International Airport (MEX).
The service will begin on 14 May 2025, with five weekly flights. It represents an essential rebuilding of the airline’s international network.
WestJet last served Calgary through Mexico City in 2018, and a service renewal is crucial for helping Alberta connect to one of the largest markets in North America.
Thanks to this network enhancement, the WestJet Group, including its Sunwing division, will operate through 13 cities in Mexico from a staggering 24 Canadian airports.
With a continued focus on the leisure market, the airline group is aware of the importance of offering enough service weekly to Mexico, which remains a popular destination during the summer.
Thanks to its commitment to Mexico, it will offer greater service between its home country and the South than any other Canadian operator. It will operate 200 flights per week during the peak summer travel period.
In 2024, 46 flights per day between Canada and Mexico carried 2.6 million guests to and from both countries. These substantial figures highlight the high demand during the summer schedule.
WestJet highlights its relationship with AeroMexico will be important in enabling codeshare benefits for customers seeking to travel beyond Mexico City.
The two airlines have been in partnership since 2011, and thanks to this, customers can access more of Mexico’s rich culture and a wide array of destinations on a single ticket.
Ultimately, while much focus rests on the newly announced service between Calgary and Mexico City, this service forms an integral part of broader expansion efforts, thanks to the launch of six new destinations from Calgary alone.
