Fiji Airways has announced the expansion of its service towards the important market of Australia from 2025 with the addition of a new city.

From 10 April 2025, Fiji Airways will offer direct service between Nadi, its home, and Cairns, in northern Queensland.

The flight will be operated thrice weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Fiji Airways says route commencement reflects its overall ambition to increase connectivity opportunities for customers in smaller cities across Australia.

Moreover, the airline is timing the flight to align with some of its other major international services, notably its Dallas-Fort Worth flight, which connects to the United States.

In recent years, Fiji Airways has noticed an increased presence of travellers flying across the Pacific using its service and stopping in Nadi before continuing to the United States.

Thanks to Fiji Airways’ membership in the oneworld alliance and its extensive relationship with airlines here, passengers can leverage these relationships to connect onwards to more destinations across the United States from the likes of Dallas.

Away from onward travel to the United States, Fiji Airways also knows that travel towards the northern part of Australia is important, with great access to tourism hotspots, including luscious beaches and even the Great Barrier Reef.

This announcement from Fiji Airways, Fiji’s national airline, is a game changer for our region. Not only does it open the South Pacific to locals as a great holiday destination or to visit loved ones, but maximising the growing network of Fiji Airways means fast, one-stop connectivity to North America via its hub in Nadi. Destinations such as Los Angeles and San Francisco are now just 16 hours away, slashing nearly three hours of travel time via an Australian domestic port.

The Boeing 737 MAX will be operated between the two locations. The company will offer onboard amenities such as complimentary meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, Wi-Fi, and entertainment content.
