Qantas has celebrated the relaunch of flights between Australia and France nonstop for the first time in two decades.
The route launches moments before the 2024 Summer Olympics, which are being held in Paris, France.
Qantas is operating services between Perth and Paris using its 787 Dreamliner with flights initially to operate four times weekly.
The Boeing 787s are configured to seat 236 passengers across a three-class cabin layout and are, therefore, optimally designed for long-haul travel such as this.
The Australian flag carrier says four weekly flights will be available until mid-August. This frequency rate is in response to the busy Euro summer period and the Olympics and Paralympics.
Once the Olympic season alongside summer finishes, Qantas will move the flight back to thrice weekly, which it believes to be incredibly beneficial for travellers.
The flights are expected to add up to 75,000 seats annually between Australia and Europe, a market that has become hotly contested for the flag carrier.

As Qantas has struggled to obtain aircraft on time, other airlines with available resources have looked to pounce and offer more compelling services to customers looking to take market share away from the Australian company.
The deployment of flights to Paris, alongside the recent recommencement to Rome, Italy, is part of the airline’s strategy to continue building up the flying kangaroos’ presence in Europe.
Western Australia is excited about the launch of these flights, which will make great tourism possible between the two locations. Furthermore, the flights to Paris are optimally timed to offer enough transit time for people from other Australian cities.
Furthermore, following Qantas’ announcement that it’ll add 4.4 million seats to and from Perth by 2031, there are expected to be even more announcements regarding expansion in the future.
The route is 14,264 km and takes 17 hours and 20 minutes to complete, making it one of the longest flights in the world. This duration will only be shattered when Qantas takes delivery of its Airbus A350-1000s and commences Project Sunrise flights.
