ITA Airways has announced plans to begin serving Bangkok from Rome Fiumicino on November 16, 2024, as part of expansion efforts.
Once service commences, Bangkok will become the airline’s first connection between Italy and Thailand and will be operational in time for the 2024/25 winter schedule.
ITA Airways says it’ll use its new Airbus A330neo fleet to power the route, which will offer five weekly flights. The airline also highlights its Rome Fiumincioni to Dubai flight, which will be inaugurated on 27 October 2024 as part of its East expansion efforts.
Departure from Rome will take place at 1515, with a next-day arrival into Bangkok at 0740. ITA Airways says flights will depart on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Meanwhile, the return flight will depart Bangkok at 1215 and arrive in Rome at 1900. These times are local.
Service launch is an important step for developing ITA’s strategy as a global airline. Its Chief Commercial Officer stated that Bangkok would become another intercontinental destination and would open the door to Thailand for the first time.
Thailand is pitted as a great location for both leisure and business travel, and offering service specifically to Bangkok opens the door for enhanced connectivity to more regional locations. Meanwhile, the relationship between Thailand and Italy as countries are expected to improve thanks to the commencement of this flight in the fourth quarter.
The Chief Aviation Officer of airports For Rome stated that Thailand has long been a target market from the location. Thus, the upcoming launch of flights is deemed highly satisfactory in the continued development of Rome as a global hub for aviation.
ITA Airways has already launched new flights to several locations from Rome as part of its busy summer schedule, which will see 26 international and 15 intercontinental routes completing 16 domestic services.
As part of the recent expansion, the airline saw flights jet off to Chicago in April, Toronto in May with Riyadh and Accraa commencing in the early stages of June. ITA says it’s excited about the upcoming launch of Dakar and Jeddah flights from July 3 and August 1 respectively.
