Qatar Airways Returns To Lisbon

Qatar Airways has recommenced flights to Lisbon, Portugal, and six weekly flights from Doha have been added to the airline’s summer schedule.

Flights operate from Hamad International Airport (DOH) to Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS). The airline highlights its award-winning hub in Doha as a leading travel destination.

The Doha-based airline previously announced it would return to Lisbon in February when Qatar Airways said it would offer more than 170 destinations across its summer 2024 schedule.

Notably, however, a strong emphasis was placed on Europe, with 50 locations to be included. Qatar Airways said it would fly the Boeing 787-8 aircraft on the service and stated commencement would occur on Thursday, 6 June 2024.

Qatar Airways highlighted the port of Lisbon as important for business and leisure. Therefore, offering flights from Doha was an important next step in developing the airline’s European network.

Customers travelling from Lisbon will have access to Qatar Airways’ wide array of markets, which make up its global network. The airline’s Chief Commercial Officer highlights ports in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent that will be available.

Interestingly, Qatar Airways highlights its Discover Qatar stopover packages, which offer customers options in Doha, including 4 or 5-star hotels with luxury breakfasts and all-inclusive resorts.

Ultimately, iniaitives such as these are just one of the many being undertaken by countries in the Middle East that are looking to elevate their tourism sector into the 2030s. This focus shift from countries in the Middle East has increased competition significantly and led to the rapid development of new infrastructure.

Qatar Airways will face competition from existing Middle Eastern airlines. However, it also has to be wary of the upcoming Riyadh Air, which will look to develop Saudi Arabia further.
