China Southern will relaunch service between Guangzhou and Perth thrice weekly in November using the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

China Southern has announced plans to return to Perth Airport in Australia to continue rebuilding an international network.

From 28 November 2024, the airline will resume nonstop flights from Guangzhou to Perth. The Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer of Perth Airport calls the announcement a significant boost for the tourism industry across Western Australia, with greater connectivity now towards mainland China.

Flights will be operated thrice weekly, arriving in Perth at 2210 with a 2355 departure back to Guangzhou. China Southern will utilise the 787 Dreamliner with flights operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

In 2019, China Southern transported 47,900 passengers to Perth as part of a successful route offering. However, during the global pandemic, this Perth service was one of the many axed by the company.

As China Southern continues to rebuild and expand, Perth will return. The carrier wants to strengthen its cooperation with Perth Airport and the Australian government.

Guangzhou to Perth, known as part of the Canton Route, first established in 2009, was part of the airline’s bold international expansion strategy. This strategy would help facilitate the inauguration of the Guangzhou to Perth service two years later, in 2011.

When service recommences in the fourth quarter of 2024, the airline will add 86,000 seats annually across the market with 5,000 tonnes of cargo.
