Air Canada has unveiled significant plans to boost its flights to the country’s capital, Ottawa, in what is described as long-awaited.
As part of the most recent expansion announcement, Air Canada says it’ll boost flying by almost 60%, with the capital being connected year-round to more cities. Additionally, even more frequencies will be offered in response to increasing demand.
The flag carrier knows how important Ottawa is not just to the country but also to its own network. In response, it believes growing capacity is an important next step in its commitment to the capital.
Air Canada Boosts Domestic Flight
Firstly, to grow its presence across Ottawa, a focus will be placed on improving domestic flights to and from the city across Canada.
The carrier says daily service, which resumed between Ottawa (YOW) and Calgary (YYC), will be extended year-round. Meanwhile, Ottawa (YOW) and Winnipeg (YWG) will also be extended year-round.
As of July 1, Air Canada says it’ll boost flying between Ottawa (YOW) and Halifax (YHZ) thrice weekly to daily. Additionally, Ottawa (YOW) and Quebec (YQB) were increased daily on May 1.
Lastly, and arguably one of the greater changes set to come, is the two daily flights offered between Ottawa (YOW) and Vancouver (YVR). As part of this route, one of the daily flights will be operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The addition of the widebody will add seats between the two cities.

Air Canada Boosts Transborder Services
Transborder operations from Ottawa will also increase, with Fort Lauderdale (FLL) now seeing six weekly flights, up from the previous four. These service decisions, alongside all other transborder flights, are for the Winter 2024/25 schedule and are thus seasonal changes.
Air Canada says Ottawa (YOW) to Orlando (MCO) will also experience a doubling of weekly flights, with four services now offered. Lastly, Ottawa (YOW) and Tampa (TPA) will see two weekly flights up from the previous one.
However, while Air Canada is making just three service changes thanks to partner United Airlines, the service will also be increased to other locations. The airline highlights Chicago and Washington Dulles, which will see additional frequencies combined with Air Canada’s services.
Further Increases Announced
With a focus on warm weather destinations during the 2024 winter schedule, Air Canada says it’ll also increase service to Cancun (CUN) and Punta Cana (PUJ).
Both locations are typically served thrice weekly, but they will increase to four flights per week on a seasonal basis.
