Delta has announced an expansion of service towards Africa by resuming routes, upgrading flights, and more.
Firstly, Delta says it’ll relaunch flights between New York JFK and Lagos in Nigeria. The route commencement will work alongside an existing service offering between Atlanta and Lagos, which operates daily.
Thanks to New York JFK and Lagos resuming, the carrier says it’ll offer 14 weekly flights to Nigeria from December through the first half of January. From here onwards, the number will drop to 10 weekly flights for the winter 2024/25 season.
Delta will use the Airbus A330-200 on the route, and customers will have multiple cabin options. The products on the A330-200 include Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and the main cabin.
More Upgrades To Africa
While Lagos gets service resumption from New York JFK, Delta is committed to improving its offering to Africa.
In late 2024, Delta says it’ll deploy the A330-900 to Ghana. As a result, almost 1,000 seats will be added each week between the New York JFK and the country.
Ultimately, Ghana will see a 30% jump in capacity towards the United States and receive a state-of-the-art aircraft, the A330neo.
Further upgrades will be seen between Atlanta and South Africa, where 10 weekly flights are offered. As part of the changes, Delta will deploy its Airbus A350-900, configured in the higher premium 35H layout.

Eight additional Delta One Suites will be present, bringing the total to 40. The U.S. airline says these changes will reach Johannesburg on June 20 and Cape Town on September 9.
