Air Canada has announced a response to the Lynx Air shutdown by expanding its network to help customers who have been affected.
A move to expand can equally be viewed as a means to help support those planning travel with Lynx. However, it is equally a means for Air Canada to capture as much market share as possible as quickly as possible following a competitor collapse/
Either way, the airline will add over 6,000 seats into select markets from February 26, 2024. These measures should provide customers with affordable Economy Class options to locations throughout Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
Air Canada believes responding to a fellow Canadian airline’s demise is essential, especially to provide an adequate option for passengers unable to rebook their winter travel plans.
Incremental capacity increases will also occur from Toronto and Montreal to Orlando, Tampa, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Cancun and Fort Myers between February 25 and March 19.
Despite the airline’s best abilities, it cites its inability to increase its network as it still has limited capacity rapidly. However, wherever possible, it’ll provide opportunities to prospective customers affected by the Lynx Air shutdown.
Lynx Air Announces Operations To Cease
Lynx Air will cease operations as of 1201 on Monday, February 26, following the conclusion of its February 25 schedule.

A decision to close came following failed attempts at securing investments to ensure its long-term future and the highly rumoured and speculated Flair Airlines merger.
Lynx Air was a relatively new airline to the Canadian market and aimed to be an ultra-low-cost carrier for customers. However, this market has proved challenging to crack, and airlines attempting to operate similarly have often failed.
Unfortunately for customers in Canada or those attempting to travel to/from the country, they’ll continue to be faced with high fares that have the possibility of pricing people out of essential flying.
