Australian flag carrier Qantas has announced from December 2024, it’ll launch a service from Darwin to Singapore, opening up new possibilities from the top end of Australia.
Big News For Qantas
As part of the newly announced route, 60,000 seats each year will be available in what Qantas describes as essential for tourism and convenience for Australians travelling internationally.
Those in the Northern Territory will have a seamless connection to London on QF1 alongside other European destinations or as close as Asia. These connections will be achieved through partner airlines.
Flights are slated to operate five times per week with the dual-class Embraer E190, with the plan to increase these flights to daily flights starting in March 2025. Ultimately, this route is what the airline says has been made possible thanks to a new base for the E190 aircraft being in Darwin.
Fares are set to start at $690 return, and these flights are now bookable. Additionally, the company provided an overview of the potential options for travellers now following the new announcement.

Comments From Executives
We’re thrilled to be offering our customers another new international route out of Darwin and strengthening the important trade, business and tourism links between Australia and Singapore. The direct service is not just great news for Territorians wanting to visit Singapore, but also for those travelling to London, Europe and across Southeast Asia, with connections to popular destinations like Phuket and Kuala Lumpur with our partner airlines, saving hours of travel time. This new route also allows us to restore the link to the UK which was established when international borders first reopened after the pandemic and we temporarily re-routed our London flight via Darwin with the support of the Northern Territory Government and Darwin Airport.
Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace
This is a significant milestone for Darwin’s aviation capacity and fantastic news for Territorians looking for more choice, competitiveness and connectivity. The new flights will benefit locals wanting to travel overseas and also connect our ever-growing cohort of business travellers with international markets. Qantas’ commitment to the Territory reinforces our profile as a must-do destination for international visitors and we commend them on today’s announcement.
Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Joel Bowden
A Long History In Darwin
While the flag carrier announces flights between Darwin and Singapore, these operations aren’t new. The airline previously flew service between the two locations up until 2006.

Additionally, the carrier says that Darwin acted as the final Austalia stopover point for the original Kangaroo route that ventured from London to Australia in 1935. These flights required multiple stops and took days. However, now, thanks to technological advancements, flights operate far quicker.
This connection is also a massive moment for the broader Northern Territory. Eighteen routes operate from Darwin, Alice Springs and Uluru with Qantas Group. Also, the airline says it flies non-stop services from Darwin to eight domestic destinations.
