South African Airways is making its long-awaited return to Australia, announcing that it’ll resume flying to Perth in April.
Relaunch To Perth
From April 28, 2024, the carrier will begin flights from Johannesburg to Perth, representing another crucial connection reinstated on their network.
South African Airways says the route is part of the airline’s strategic plans to scale its operations to a profitable level.
The service to Perth has been deemed as one that allows the company to enjoy substantial rewards. Also, it will showcase SAA’s unique capabilities as a national carrier for customers.
A relaunch joins Sao Paulo in Brazil, which began on October 31 2023. As a result, Perth is the second interoceanic route reopened by the company as it slowly begins to rebuild its network following a turbulent recent time.
The CEO of South African Airways said that Perth has always been a favoured destination for South African travellers, equally South Africa for those in Australia. The carrier forecasts that 80% of the target market will visit family and friends.
For leisure and business travellers, this recommencement will be hugely beneficial. However, the airline also makes note of the importance of promoting trade and cultural exchange between the two countries.
The Schedule
South African Airways says it’ll operate an Airbus A340-300 on service to Perth, and this A340 is equipped with 253 seats spread across two classes. There’ll be 38 business class seats and 215 in economy.
The widebody should provide SAA with enough capacity while offering customers space on the service to South Africa. The company says that the A340-300 has always been reliable, and leveraging its industry-wide reliability and comfort on long-haul flights should see the company enjoy success.
Service will operate thrice weekly with departure from OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 2055. Arrival in Perth will occur the following day at 1220.
The carrier says the A340 will depart Perth at 1440 and return to Johannesburg the same day at 1935. The return flight is scheduled to operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Comments From Executive
We are committed to growing SAA into a revered leader in the global aviation sector. Perth is but one indicator of this ambition and gives us confidence that our vision of expanding our footprint to over 20 destinations this year will be realised.
