As part of efforts to repatriate Australians stranded in Israel, Qantas will send an Airbus A380 to assist.
Qantas’ Plans Unveiled
Securing additional departure flights, the airline has scheduled two already-announced operations from Tel Aviv Ben Gurion to London.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will operate these flights from Tel Aviv to London.
London will be a crucial port for the Australian flag carrier to get citizens home.
This is where the airline will send its Airbus A380 to London by offering a service from the United Kingdom towards Sydney with a stopover in Singapore.
Qantas says that the flights will land in Sydney on Wednesday afternoon.
A Challenging Situation
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon. Penny Wong, says the situation is highly challenging and ever-changing in Israel.
As a result, many working pieces need to be analysed in these circumstances to determine what can and can’t go ahead.
Qantas says that nearly a thousand crew members put their hands up for these flights. This total is a much larger group than the 70 required.
Advice Outlined By The Australian Government
Australians who want to leave Israel via Australia’s assisted-departure flights should register at Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Smartraveller website. If you have already registered with DFAT you do not need to register again. For urgent consular assistance, Australians should continue to call the Australian Government’s 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre on +61 2 6261 3305 (from overseas) or 1300 555 135 (from within Australia).

Disruption On The Qantas Network
As Qantas sends Boeing 787s towards Tel Aviv, alongside an Airbus A380, to London for these speciality services, other customers will be impacted.
The Australian airline says it’s working with its customers to limit the overall impact where possible.

Why doesn’t the A380 fly to Israel to get them out with the aircraft configured for 800 pax which can accomodate.
Well isn’t it better to get 335 out at a time should the Aircraft be shot down other than loosing 800. Give Qantas a break.
