China Airlines has announced its exercised options to order an additional eight Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to boost its regional route network.

Previously Boeing said such a deal was listed as unidentified on the Boeing Orders and Deliveries page before being formally assigned to the airline.

China Airlines will utilise the capabilities of the 787 extensively in the coming years, with commitments for the type already existing following an order placed last year. At the time, this deal included 16 787-9s.

As a result of the latest commitment, China Airlines will soon fly 24 Boeing 787s to become more efficient and improve sustainability across critical routes.

China Airlines has a fleet of 78 in-service aircraft, with its largest fleet type measured by units in service being the A330-300 with 17, followed by the A350-900 with 13. Excluding its China Airlines Cargo Boeing 747F operations, next on the list is the 777-300ER with 10 in-service.
