Airbus is set for a busy 2026 Farnborough Airshow, and its A330neo is expected to be the jet to steal the show with another order in advanced talks.
The manufacturer is currently in the final stages of securing a further purchase from Saudi Arabia’s flynas, a repeat customer for the popular A330neo that could be revealed at the Farnborough Airshow commencing next week.
The deal would see flynas convert a significant chunk of its Airbus widebody options into firm units as part of efforts to grow its backlog and accelerate its transition to the next-generation jet.
flynas’ order for Airbus aircraft
According to sources familiar with the matter, flynas is working to firm up a reported eight options for the A330neo, the A330-900 variant.
The airline and planemaker haven’t commented on the reported interest, as they typically do not, unless RFPs become public, in which case an airline signalling its intent to order more aircraft at some point would.
flynas has many A330neos that are considered options under an existing commitment for firm units it could exercise if deemed necessary. The initial MoU came a couple of years ago and included the A320neo and A330neo families.

With an order boom driven by its hundreds of options and ambitious growth plans for the fleet by the beginning of 2030, there will be a consistent need for new deliveries to enter the Saudi-based company’s fleet.
Firming up eight more A330neos, while a small number compared to the 100 more planes required to hit fleet targets for the remainder of the decade, is still instrumental in fleet planning efforts and higher-capacity flying.
What a new order would do for flynas
A new order, or the exercise of options in its initial contract for more A330neos from Airbus, would help strengthen flynas’ commitment to the widebody jet.
Furthermore, the aircraft would support the long-haul ambitions already outlined. While a leading low-cost carrier in Saudi Arabia and operating an all-Airbus fleet of narrowbodies, the carrier plans to make the A330neo an important subfleet for the next phase of growth.
A330neos will enable flynas to launch new routes, including service to European, South Asian, and other markets with high-density demand corridors. The jets also support the Vision 2030 goals of the Saudi Kingdom, which emphasise growth across the industry, with airlines like Riyadh Air debuting.

For Airbus, further firming up a contract with flynas expands its A330neo orderbook. While this low-risk, mid-sized widebody started off its life slowly, with a smaller orderbook and periods of drought, the last handful of years have seen heightened interest.
Each additional batch of A330neos, whether ordered fresh or options exercised, helps keep the widebody line warm and allows production to continue without placing pressure on the programme.
