SAS has confirmed the next stage of its fleet renewal with a sizeable order for Embraer aircraft.
Up to 55 aircraft have been purchased, with the E195-E2 being the selected model. The makeup of the contract includes 45 firm units with additional options for 10 more should the carrier wish to activate them.
The landmark deal also represents the largest direct order by SAS from a manufacturer since 1996, indicating the direction the carrier wants to head moving forward.
Embraer will therefore be tasked with the vital role of renewing the fleet across a long-term period and bringing the game-changing efficiency the airline requires across its network.

SAS says it’s focused on growth at this stage while also finding ways to reduce emissions and increase efficiency across its day-to-day operations. Thus, a new commercial aircraft order was necessary.
Furthermore, there has been a focus on developing its short- to medium-haul network, with the need to bring greater levels of efficiency.
More Details On SAS’ Order
SAS says that the first aircraft deliveries are expected to occur in late 2027. From this point forward, over the next four years, more E2 jets will be delivered.
At list price, the order is worth approximately USD 4 billion; however, as with all contracts, substantial discounts are applied, and the discounted amount is not publicly disclosed.
With a strong focus on Scandinavia and Europe, the size of the E2, alongside its overall range, is ideally suited to complement the existing business structure and enable better network connectivity with lower trip costs.

Labelled a defining moment by the President and CEO of SAS, the E2 is championed by them as an outstanding plane with performance metrics that make it world-class.
The decision has been a long time in the making, but SAS believes it has selected the right aircraft for its future, as the other candidate, the A220, was not chosen.
