Air India is making further temporary reductions to its network to enhance reliability across its operations.

The temporary reduction, which is expected to last until 15 July 2025, will result in a nearly 5% reduction of its narrowbody network.

Described as a voluntary decision, the frequency has been affected across 19 routes; however, there has also been a temporary suspension across three routes.

Air India hopes that with all the adjustments, it’ll be able to minimise further disruptions to its passengers while having greater stability in the wake of challenging times for the brand.

The routes suspended until the mid-way point of July are AI2392/2393, which previously operated daily between Bengaluru and Singapore.

Meanwhile, AI2111/21100, which also operates daily between Pune and Singapore, is expected to be cut. Lastly, Mumbai to Bagdogra as AI551/552, which was previously operating daily, will be suspended temporarily.

Air India says it apologises for the effects these operational disruptions will have on passengers; however, it is making necessary steps already to offer alternative flying means and accommodation where required.

Even with the changes, there will still be 600 narrow-body flights operated on a daily basis, a network that Air India believes is manageable.

While route suspensions are the landmark changes that have unfolded, there is also a long list of routes that’ll see reduced flying.

Air India Already Axed Flights

Ultimately, for Air India, the reduction of its narrowbody flying, albeit minimal compared to its typical network, still marks the second adjustment in a matter of a week.

The carrier confirmed late last week its intention to cut international flying following the fatal accident involving its Boeing 787 Dreamliner after it departed from Ahmedabad.

The reduction of international widebody flying is expected to affect 15% of the operations for a period lasting several weeks.

The flag carrier confirms that the inspections, which are taking place, will be conducted across the Boeing 787 and 777 fleet types.

Air India also states that it’s cancelling some of its international flights due to the unfolding situation in the Middle East, as tensions rise and airspace restrictions become more uncertain.
