Riyadh Air, an upcoming Saudi Arabia-based carrier slated for launch in 2025, is planning a large launch with many things lined up.

The airline is part of a broader strategy unveiled by the Kingdom to ensure it can increase tourism levels by the turn of the next decade. Riyadh Air is deemed a core solution.

Many Slots For Riyadh Air

As part of the airline’s 2025 launch, it has secured a staggering 2,574 slots at Riyadh King Khalid International Airport, which helps cement it as an industry leader.

The developments follow a new filing from Airport Coordination Limited (ACL) for the airline’s home airport. The filing also matches 100% of the initial quote that Riyadh Air had put forward for its ambitions.

While all slots may not be initially filled as aircraft are delivered over time, this signals the airline’s intent to become an industry leader quickly.

Notably, Riyadh Air hopes to cover every area of the globe, and by acquiring over 2,000 slots, it’ll be able to do so immediately.

However, Riyadh Air hopes to carve its own niche and not directly compete with Emirates, Etihad Airways, or even Qatar Airways, which are nearby neighbours. Furthermore, airline CEO Tony Douglas has pushed back criticism surrounding the airline’s rapid expansion before even launching.

Looking Ahead At Riyadh Air

The airline has commitments to many different aircraft across Airbus and Boeing. The first was its trademark 787 purchase, and it’s currently running test flights to get the required certifications to begin passenger flights.

These test flights are noncommercial ones commenced on 12 September 2024, the first aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, jetted off from Riyadh to Jeddah.

As for the carrier itself, Riyadh Air was unveiled some time ago and has, since its launch, cemented its position as one of the most talked-about airlines without having operated a commercial flight.

There is great anticipation for what Riyadh Air will offer customers, with executives confirming it would be one of the greatest onboard products available to passengers.
