Emirates has placed additional orders for the Boeing 777 Freighter and its SkyCargo division as part of future growth ambitions.
According to Reuters sources, the Dubai-based carrier is said to have received some of the 11 777F aircraft ordered during September.
Emirates SkyCargo has continuously sought more freighters in recent years to diversify its business and help support growing customer demand.
Interestingly, such a purchase came weeks before Boeing announced delivery delays again for the popular 777X, the aircraft of which Emirates is the largest customer.
The 777F has proven itself time and time again as a reliable freighter for companies looking to add capacity to their fleet sooner rather than later.
Ultimately, the long-term option is the newly announced 777-8F. While companies have already committed to this variant, many unknowns surround when the type will be ready to enter service, considering Boeing cannot even get the 777-9 approved and into service.
As a result, the 777F, which is still permitted to be produced and has available delivery slots sooner rather than later, appears to be a far greater option for freight operators to address short-term needs.
Furthermore, the presence of 777 Freighters is only expected to increase as some of the first 777s enter service near the end of their operational life for passenger flights and see conversions on the horizon.
Many companies are considering leveraging the 777 passenger series’ capabilities to convert it into a freighter, extending the unit’s life and giving operators a fantastic opportunity to capture freight demand.
Despite a strong commitment to the 777F existing Emirates SkyCargo has yet to commit to the next-generaiton of freighter in either the 777-8F or the A350F, time will tell which direction it heads in.
