STARLUX only in recent months detailed its ambitions publicly to join the oneworld alliance as part of future growth plans.

The airline’s move towards an alliance is considered a big move and would see it move similarly to fellow Taiwanese carrier EVA Air, however, this airline calls Star Alliance home.

Since its conception, STARLUX has aimed to operate a modest fleet of highly fuel-efficient Airbus family aircraft. The development of its route network has seen it compete with airlines that call Taiwan home and those in the United States.

STARLUX’s vision to join oneworld comes as it tracks the progress of U.S.-based carriers, a country it has expanded into heavily since it launched only several years ago.

United Airlines calls SkyTeam home, whereas Delta is a Star Alliance member. However, American Airlines, the U.S. carrier, is part of oneworld.

STARLUX’s Chairman confirmed plans to join an alliance in a shareholder meeting in early June 2024, and now, those plans are set to become a reality.

The airline’s CEO spoke on the matter during a recent investor conference and said it would apply to join oneworld in 2025.

If approved, STARLUX would join the likes of Qantas, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and many other airlines that call this well-renowned alliance home.

STARLUX firmly believes that joining an alliance would greatly benefit it and enhance its efficiency when it comes to opportunities to grow its route network while also collaborating with other airlines.

As new aircraft arrive, STARLUX also targets new locations across Europe, Oceania and North America. As a result, possible network connectivity in the oneworld alliance presents excellent opportunities.

For example, if STARLUX were to join oneworld and begin flying nonstop to Australia, it could foster a relationship with flag carrier Qantas, a fellow oneworld member, to facilitate regional and domestic services across Australia for its passengers.

Positive ramifications such as these offer a great opportunity for the airline moving forward.
