As the 2024 Farnborough Airshow draws to a close, flynas, Saudi Arabia’s low-cost carrier, announced it will purchase new aircraft to boost its fleet.
The substantial agreement includes purchases for narrow and widebody jets. flynas, by signing an MoU, intends to make this firm committed to 90 aircraft.
As part of the agreement, the airline will take on up to 75 A320neo family aircraft with variants that are not specified. The other commitment comes from the A330-900, part of the A330neo with 15 units.
Once these planes are delivered, flynas expects to significantly increase overall market capacity while enhancing range and customer experience.
Furthermore, these new-gen planes will improve the airline’s overall efficiency and, thus, financial performance across key markets.
The A330neos will be configured to two classes with up to 400 passengers in a high-density layout to maximise passenger numbers across critical locations on the route network. For the remaining aircraft, flynas target their deployment across international, domestic and regional routes.
The major purchase aligns with the Kingdom’s intentions of rapidly growing air travel and using this as a driving force to increase tourism and boost the economy.
flynas’ agreement is one of the many recently unveiled by airlines that call the Kingdom home, and it comes months before Riyadh Air attempts to begin approval flights to get airborne and become the new long-haul airline for the region.
As the 2024 Farnborough Airshow closes, it has been successful for the A330neo programme, which welcomed significant commitments after a lengthy dry spell.
The A330neo continues to be a slow grower but sees its backlog grow as a modest alternative for widebody flying. Virgin Atlantic, VietJet and now flynas have all committed to the aircraft during the trade show with an excitement to begin or continue flying the popular widebody long into the future.
