Boeing is set to resume deliveries of widebody aircraft such as the 777 and 787 to China, a big move for the manufacturer that has struggled in the country.
A suspension of deliveries of this aircraft came following not the first review by the Chinese regulator who has been closely monitoring Boeing.
China was the first to ground the 737 MAX following the second incident of ET302 in March 2019. Some considered their immediate response over the top; however, it later proved to be the right call, and the over-cautious approach protected customers and workers.
However, stretching into 2024, the overly cautious approach has continued as Boeing has faced its latest quality and operational difficulties. Several times this year, China has pushed to investigate flaws with Boeing products and temporarily suspend deliveries.
These suspensions, which the Chinese regulator argues are required, profoundly impact the American planemakers’ backlog, which grew during the pandemic and severely impacted them.
Reuters reports that widebody jets are slated to resume, according to one of their sources. Furthermore, 737 MAX deliveries were suspended for not the first this year as China has moved to investigate several faults.
The delivery suspension placed on Boeing has continued to impact its ability to move through its inventory and upcoming backlog. Boeing has orders in the thousands for its aircraft, but persistent delivery suspensions such as these hurt the manufacturer.
Furthermore, considering that the FAA has barred production increases out of fear of the negative effects on quality management, Boeing’s 2024 performance has been far from optimal and will impact them financially.
Additionally, airline customers now feel the effects of production delays and the inability to acquire their planes on time. The knock-on effect of delayed deliveries to China and all customers truly impacts everyone.
