Cebu Pacific looks set to become the latest airline to commit to the Airbus A320neo family with an order in the pipeline.
As reported by Bloomberg, The Philippine-based carrier is eyeing a purchase of almost 150 Airbus A320neo family jets, which would aid its significant fleet growth ambitions.
Cebu Pacific was to more than double its fleet and seize existing and emerging markets. As part of those ambitions, the requirement for next-generation aircraft has become a key priority.
Unfortunately, the carrier has been negatively impacted by the ongoing Pratt & Whitney engine saga, forcing multiple aircraft to be grounded. Despite this grounding, the airline has looked to mitigate losses through the leasing market by acquiring other aircraft on a more short-term basis.
Cebu Pacific may look to announce the deal as early as next month when the 2024 Farnborough Airshow takes place. Ultimately, the carrier wouldn’t be the first nearing a deal and eyeing this airshow as the prime time to announce it.
Airshows such as the one taking place at Farnborough attract the world’s attention to industry developments and provide platforms for airlines and companies to announce groundbreaking news.
Cebu Pacific has long been committed to Airbus aircraft, and this new order will likely follow a similar path. While Cebu was open to all options, including the popular 737 MAX series, these sources report that Airbus is the clear frontrunner.
As the Airbus A320neo family has become more diverse with several leading options, the makeup of the deal has not been publicly disclosed. The agreement ultimately needs to be finalised, with delivery slots, aircraft variants, engines, and more all to be considered.
