Fiji Airways will officially become the 15th full member of the oneworld alliance following a new announcement made by the carrier.
As part of the latest deal, Fiji’s flag carrier and the South Pacific will transition from an oneworld Connect partner to a full member.
Fiji Airways has long held a place as a Connect member, with the last five years seeing the airline extend and foster new relationships with oneworld members. However, building upon this success, the next step is transitioning the airline to a full membership.
oneworld and Fiji Airways say that the transition is expected to commence with immediate effect and will be completed roughly within the next 12 months.
The pair highlights their already successful relationship, fostered over the last five years even with the effects of the global pandemic. Furthermore, with Fiji Airways charting a course for growth and eyeing new aircraft, the alliance believes the timing is perfect.
Thanks to the full integration of Fiji Airways into oneworld, customers will benefit greatly from the airline’s ability to strengthen its role for international travellers.
Additionally, executives of the two companies highlight the international connectivity options that’ll be heightened thanks to alliance relationships already in place.
It’s a very warm bula, or hello, to Fiji Airways as we welcome them as our 15th full member airline in the oneworld alliance. Fiji Airways is already part of the oneworld family, as we have had a highly successful relationship since the airline joined as a oneworld connect partner five years ago. With its tremendous growth, award winning product and services, and acceleration of connections with all oneworld member airlines, Fiji Airways will strengthen our position as the premier airline alliance for international global travellers.
Nat Pieper, oneworld CEO.

oneworld is home to Qantas, Qatar Airways, Japan Airlines, American Airlines, SriLankan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and many other leading companies.
Fiji Airways uses Nadi International Airport as its hub. Its large international network connects ports in the United States to Asia and Australia. Moreover, when considering its Fiji Link operations, the airline’s network stretches to more regional Pacific Island nations that require important connectivity and use Nadi as a gateway.
Following the announcement, oneworld says the airline will provide Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby customers with a full suite of benefits from earning and redeeming points to other important experiences. The alliance notes status points, priority check-in with early boarding and longue access where applicable.

This is great news! Being a oneworld connect partner is a rather complex “lite” version of being part of oneworld. What passengers have or don’t have access to when flying Fiji Airways (as a oneworld connect member) is confusing for points gurus or those with status. Making journeys smoother for passengers is one of the key aspects of being in an alliance.
