Lufthansa Cargo is expected to be kept waiting for its next 777 Freighter from Boeing following new developments.
According to an exclusive by Aero.de, the airline has been informed by the American plane maker that a delay will stretch several months. What was previously expected to arrive in the previous months will not arrive until roughly August at the earliest.
Lufthansa Cargo has been looking to progressively expand its fleet, with the 777F viewed as a fantastic option for longer-ranged missions. Moreover, the larger freighter complements the existing A321P2Fs in the company fleet.
However, Lufthansa Cargo’s ability to continue growing will now be put on hold as Boeing battles significant quality deficiencies, as aero.de and sources highlight.
While Boeing says delivery will be delayed, the latest batch of delays follows the late delivery of GE90 engines. While the latest issues are unrelated, they follow inspections that reveal safety defects that are being inspected and sorted before delivery can occur.
The Lufthansa Cargo fleet now includes 15 aircraft spread across the Airbus A321 and Boeing 777 freighter options. The operator’s bulk freighters are the 777F, with 11 units active and averaging 7.7 years.
