WestJet has unveiled plans to boost its network by expanding south to Mexico and the Caribbean with new routes.

The two new flights will launch in time for the winter 2024/25 season and will focus significantly on warm weather destinations. These routes will allow Canadians to escape the harsh winters offered.

Tulum, Mexico, is being added to the airline network from Calgary and Toronto as part of the first service to the newly opened international airport.

Calgary to Tulum will operate once weekly from November 9, 2024, with service ending on April 27, 2025. Meanwhile, Toronto to Tulum is expected to thrive weekly from November 9, 2024, with a service end date of April 27, 2025.

WestJet will also boost services in Grenada and the Caribbean as it focuses heavily on the growing leisure market in the region. Toronto to Grenada, still subject to regulatory approval, is slated to operate once a week from November 2, 2024. WestJet adds that this service will end on April 27, 2025.

Known for its spices, beaches, waterfalls, and much more, the airline is launching a service to Grenada to unlock new possibilities for passengers. Moreover, the carrier has times these flights to enhance connectivity across Western Canada.

Our strategy to establish the WestJet Group as Canada’s western leader and national leisure champion is working, as we continue to offer the most robust and affordable coast-to-coast schedule, fine-tuned to meet the needs of Canadian travellers. Cementing our position as the country’s leading leisure airline, the WestJet Group will provide more seat capacity than any other airline to sun destinations this winter.

WestJet adds that it’ll offer one weekly flight between Kelowna and Mazatlan from December 13, 2024, through April 18, 2025. Lastly, Winnipeg to Los Cabos will be connected from November 9, 2024, through April 26, 2025, with one flight per week.

Transborder Services Getting Boosts

WestJet has also announced plans to expand its transborder offering as part of a commitment to the United States.

From November 3, 2024, the airline will offer one weekly flight between Vancouver and Fort Lauderdale. On November 18, 2024, the airline will commence seasonal Winnipeg to Fort Lauderdale flights. These routes are slated to cease in the third week of April 2025.

The expectation is that WestJet will also focus on service towards other key locations in the United States, superficially focusing on Delta’s hubs. Meanwhile, additional benefits will be presented to those in Canada through year-round connectivity across key cities.
