United Airlines has announced its most significant transatlantic schedule in company history as it gears up for the busy summer 2024 season.
Breaking Down The Expansion
Building upon an excellent summer 2023 schedule, United Airlines wants to build upon that with the debut of a revamped flight schedule.
An expansion of the network will see new flights launched to Rome, Brussels, Malaga and Reykjavik. Additionally, there’ll be new nonstop service between Newark and Faro.
Ultimately, United will fly to more transatlantic destinations than all other U.S. carriers. It’ll also be the only airline to focus on destinations such as Dubrovnik, Malaga, Mallorca and Tenerife.
United Announces Service To Faro, Portugal
From May 24, 2024, United Airlines will be the first and only airline to connect the United States and Faro, Portugal.
The new service will originate in New York/Newark and be operated four times weekly with the ever-reliable Boeing 757-200.
With a focus on scenic beaches and striking historic sites, United Airlines believes it’ll be a fantastic connection for customers.
Earlier Starts To Seasonal Services
As highlighted in the United Airlines press release, the carrier identified that the summer 2024 season is starting earlier than expected.
A decision comes following a critical analysis of the Spring 2023 season, which identified trends showing increased travel.
United Airlines says it flew 33% more customers across the Atlantic than in 2022 and anticipates this will grow in the Spring of 2024.
Therefore, several services towards Europe will resume earlier than expected as part of the move from the major airline.
- Washington Dulles – Lisbon, Portugal – starting February 15
- Washington Dulles – Barcelona, Spain – starting February 15
- Washington Dulles – Rome, Italy – starting February 15
- New York/Newark – Nice, France – starting March 30
- Chicago/O’Hare – Rome, Italy – starting March 30
- Chicago O’Hare – Milan, Italy – starting March 30
- New York/Newark – Naples, Italy – starting April 5
- New York/Newark – Malaga – starting May 2
- San Francisco – Rome, Italy – starting May 2
New Flights to Reykjavik, Rome, Brussels and Malaga
On May 23, 2024, United says it’ll also resume seasonal flying towards Reykjavik in Iceland.
The relaunch of these flights on a seasonal basis is coming for the first time since the summer of 2022.
A Boeing 757-200 will operate the service on a daily flight. Additionally, the 757-200 will be added to the Newark-Malaga daily flight beginning on May 2, 2024.
Additionally, United says that frequency will grow between Newark and Brussels on March 30, 2024, with a second daily flight.
Lastly, a second daily flight will be added between Washington Dulles and Rome from May 23, 2024, on a Boeing 767-300.
Continued Growth For Other Global Regions
Next summer, United’s network across the Pacific will grow more than 30% with non-stop service to 15 destinations – including the airline’s newest routes between San Francisco-Manila and San Francisco-Beijing. The airline will also grow its Latin American schedule by 10% next summer, extending some of its newest and most popular routes into the summer season. Highlights include new service between Denver-San Juan; Denver-Montego Bay; New York/Newark-Barbados and New York/Newark-Curaçao.
