Saudia Group, representing Saudia and flyadeal, has announced a major new aircraft order for the Airbus A320neo family.
At completion, the deal includes 105 aircraft spread across two aircraft variants. Airbus says 12 A320neo jets are included in the deal, and the bulk of the contract is for the A321neo, with 93 units ordered.
Airbus is continuing to enjoy significant success with its A321neo programme. Across 2023, this variant was the best-performing aircraft across the portfolio of jets offered. In 2024, this feat has been reaffirmed with continued firm interest turning into substantial commitments for the stretched narrowbody.
Ambitious Plans Across The Middle East
The purchase from Saudia Group is immensely strategic and aligns with the ambitions of contributing to the Vision 2030 plan. This plan involves advancing the Kingdom’s capabilities within the aviation sector to boost the economy. The hope is that by 2030, the airlines will be more responsible for bringing people to the Kingdom instead of for transit purposes.
Thanks to this aircraft purchase, several other airlines across Saudi Arabia will have a crucial job developing their business. Additionally, the Kingdom will invest large amounts of money into tourism to ensure more people travel to the region.
However, these ambitious plans undertaken in Saudi Arabia aren’t the only similar thing that has occurred. Etihad Airways’ Journey 2030 will see the fleet and route network double to push for growth. Moreover, the expansion will boost the UAE economy and tourism to Abu Dhabi. As a result, these airlines are battling to compete with one another.

More On The Order
The Director General of Saudia Group says that the growth objectives will see destinations grow well past just over 100 features. As a result, seat capacity increases will occur immediately, with more routes to be added in due course. The new Airbus A320neo family jets are expected to play a pivotal role.
While there’s much talk about Saudi Arabia’s plans, the A320neo jets were also selected thanks to their operational efficiency. Several executives highlighted the capabilities of the aircraft and said the A320neo family was considered the best aircraft of choice.
These aircraft purchases are incredibly important for airlines on course for growth into the 2030s. Analysts warn that several of these lines are selling out, so airlines must place their orders sooner rather than later to ensure they remain competitive.
