A Rex Boeing 737-800 arrives into Melbourne Airport

Rex has announced a new route out West, with service slated to commence from Melbourne through Perth.

From Friday, June 28, the carrier will offer five weekly flights between the two popular cities utilising its Boeing 737 fleet.

The route marks another important milestone in Rex’s continued business development. The former only regional carrier acquired Boeing 737s during the pandemic and has since entered popular domestic markets such as Melbourne to Sydney.

Therefore, the carrier’s service launch to Perth from Melbourne with its fleet of Boeing 737s represents another fantastic moment.

We are delighted with the news of extra flights between Melbourne and Perth and look forward to welcoming even more visitors from Perth to experience all the wonderful things Victoria has to offer.

Rex says that when more airlines are present on the one route, it forces all airlines to get better. Moreover, this increases competition and will see greater benefits for customers in the long term with true value for money.

The airline’s general manager for network strategy, Warrick Lodge, wasn’t afraid to boast about the airline’s on-time performance either. Rex is said to outshine competitors in the domestic landscape with far low cancellation rates and high levels of on-time performance.

On-time performance and cancellation rates are important when travelling from Melbourne to Perth. In the first four months of 2024, competitors cancelled 57 flights across the Melbourne to Perth routing, resulting in an on-time performance of only 72%. Rex firmly believes they can do better in this market.

Ultimately, the route segment will represent the 11th domestic service offered by the Boeing 737. Many highlight the 737’s use as a game changer for the company in diversifying the route network alongside using Saab regional aircraft.

Rex says the good times will keep coming, as it will announce another new domestic service in the coming days.
