Icelandic low-cost carrier PLAY has announced that it carried 184,926 passengers during August.
This is a substantial increase from August 2022, when the company only carried over 100,000. The year-on-year rise equates to a 70% increase.
PLAY further noted that its load factor for the month just stood at close to 90%, precisely 88.9%, an increase of 2% from one year prior.
August was an excellent operational month for PLAY with an impressive 89% load factor and a world-class 90% on-time performance. We are getting close to the end of the summer season, but it is already clear that we can be very proud of our operational performance so far this year. We continue to see many opportunities for future growth and we have therefore begun planning our growth for the coming years.
Birgir Jonsson CEO:
PLAY is heavily committed to growing in markets as well. Two letters of intent have been signed regarding the future fleet with two brand new Airbus A320neos due to enter service in time for the busy summer of 2025.
Apart from these letters of intent, the airline is also exploring ways to add capacity in time for 2024.
PLAY currently has ten aircraft in service, with its most significant fleet type being the Airbus A320neo. More than 50% of the fleet accounts for this type, with six active units.
