A Pegasus Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 10

Pegasus Airlines of Turkey has announced a significant commitment to American planemaker Boeing to grow and modernise its single-aisle fleet.

The low-cost unit has confirmed it will purchase up to 200 737 MAX jets from the manufacturer, with the high-capacity variant 737- 10 selected as part of the deal.

The deal comprises 100 737-10s that act as firm orders and a further 100 options should the airline deem demand or renewal efforts require more aircraft. The options serve as the perfect platform for this moving forward.

The contract is a massive vote of confidence for Boeing as the calendar year ends after another turbulent 12 months with lots going wrong.

Boeing hopes that 2025 will be more stable and, more importantly, that it can raise production rates to a healthier level. However, regarding the Pegasus Airlines order, it is also imperative that aircraft certification progresses more smoothly than in the past year.

While the 737 MAX has been flying for years, the variant selected by Pegasus for the 737-10, which is already quite popular worldwide, has yet to be formally certified.

Boeing has persistently missed deadlines for achieving approval for this aircraft and has battled complications after complications, leading to customer frustration and difficulties.

The 737-10, however, can carry up to 230 passengers and has a range of 5,740 km (3,100 nautical miles). These next-generation advancements allow reduced fuel use and subsequent emissions by 20% compared to the planes it is replacing, such as the 737NG.

Thanks to this deal, the 737-10 now has over 1,000 commitments. Many airlines will rely on that additional capacity to serve crucial markets and complement existing variants of the family that are in service.

As such, the aircraft family has thrived during its turbulent period and is precisely what most airlines require for their single-aisle operations.

Pegasus Airlines says it’s pleased with its contract with Boeing. Since entering the industry in 1990, Boeing has been integral to its day-to-day operations.

The carrier knows the purchase is vital for its home country and connecting the globe. Purchasing new aircraft such as the 737-10 at such a large amount will allow for the launch of new services and, thus, an increase in market share.
